After competing for 4 years on his high school track and field team, John graduated from Downers Grove South High School earning his diploma in June of 1998. In the summer of 1998, he was recruited by Lewis University Track and Field head coach, Jeff Degraw. While attending Lewis University, he received a myriad of indoor and outdoor track and field accolades ranging from the 60-meter dash to the 400-meter hurdles. In 2001, John was ranked and awarded the 13th fastest sprinter in 2001 NCAA Division 2 Track and Field, and 26th fastest sprinter of combined Division 1, 2, and 3.
In 2002, he graduated from Lewis University with a major in criminology and double minor in political science and computer science. In 2004, he attended the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh. During that time and shortly after, John began competing at track and field competition unattached, having a successful career. In 2010 John was discovered by track and field hall of fame coach, Tony Holler, of Plainfield North High School. This is where Coach John currently coaches men's and women's tracking field sprinters/hurdlers. In addition, he teaches speed and agility and sprint mechanics to Plainfield North Football and Baseball Teams.
